Adults are humans or animals which have attained their maximum development. If used in conjunction with humans, the word adult can have meanings that are related to legal or social notions. When a human reaches full physical and intellectual maturity this is known as adulthood. Most people think that adulthood is attained when you are 20 or older. The middle age stage, which begins approximately 40 years of age, is followed by an ageing process that can last up to 60 years old. Adulthood is divided into three distinct stages that are: young adulthood (18-mid-30s), mid-30s-mid-60s, then late adulthood from mid-60s up to end of life. When we reach the early stages of adulthood (between 20 and 40) then our bodies are at their peak of maturity although our weight and height could increase slightly. In the early years of our lives, we're physically peaking. Muscle strength, response timing, the ability to sense as well as cardiac function, all hit their peak.
