She's also well-known for her performances in the film Lorrell in Dreamgirls which was the Academy Award winning film (2006) and LaVerne in Starz's Power. Her performance in the theater are well-known as well, especially her performances in the role of Emmie Thbodeaux from The Broadway musical Caroline or Change (2004) that earned her the Tony Award Best Featured actress in the musical.
